ELLIS Unit Amsterdam Hosts Third Annual NeurIPS Fest

On November 28, 2024, the ELLIS Unit Amsterdam hosted its third annual NeurIPS Fest at LAB42, attracting 120 participants and showcasing 25 posters. Co-organized with the ELLIS Units in Nijmegen and Delft, the event brought together AI/ML researchers from across the Netherlands for a vibrant and collaborative gathering.

Keynote Presentations

The event began with Prof. Dr. Cees Snoek, who recently completed his term as director of the ELLIS Unit Amsterdam. Prof. Snoek shared exciting updates, including the inclusion of new research themes such as Socially Intelligent Artificial Systems (SIAS) and Tabular Representation Learning (TRL). He also announced the launch of the new ELLIS Unit Amsterdam website and introduced Dr. Jan-Willem van de Meent as the new director.

The keynote talk, titled "Diffusions, Flows, and Other Stories", was delivered by Dr. Christian A. Naesseth. Dr. Naesseth shared insights from his groundbreaking work, including five accepted papers for the upcoming NeurIPS 2024 Conference. His research spans several advanced topics in machine learning and AI, such as Neural Flow Diffusion Models, Equivariant Neural Diffusion for Molecule Generation, and Variational Flow Matching for Graph Generation.

Poster Session & Networking

Following the keynote, attendees enjoyed a dynamic poster session where researchers presented their cutting-edge work in AI and machine learning. This session facilitated valuable discussions, feedback, and networking opportunities, strengthening the ties within the ELLIS community across the Netherlands.

The event was a true reflection of the spirit of collaboration and excellence that the ELLIS network fosters in AI/ML research. With support from 16 other ELLIS units across Europe, the NeurIPS Fest contributed to the vibrant exchange of ideas that defines the AI research landscape.
